I met a mobile home salesman once who told me this was one of his most successful closes. When a “good ol’ boy” just couldn’t make up his mind… A little jab at the ego often was just the leverage needed to close the deal.
Anyone who spends any time online in general and blogging in particular is inundated with pitches just like this. The words may be different but the underlying tone is the same, that only an idiot wouldn’t take advantage of this amazing opportunity.
One email subject line read: “Frankly, I’m puzzled”
Dear Dan,
I noticed you saw my “Most INCREDIBLE FREE Gift Ever” Offer
the other day, but for some reason you did NOT take advantage
of it like most people do. I’m curious why you chose not to
accept $613.91 worth of my BEST Marketing & Money-Making
Information.
Sooo…
Can you do me a small favor? Please hit the reply button and
tell me why you chose not to accept my offer. Thanks in advance
for your help.
Of course, when I replied, there was no response. Because the only response they are interested in is $19.95.
The next one read “I give up!”
Okay…I’m about to give up, but as we teach our… members, persistence is vital to success. So I’ll try ‘ONE-LAST-TIME’ to convince you to take a 2-Month FREE Test Drive as an ‘Elite’ Gold Member of… Insider’s Circle.
Don’t you LOVE the CAPITAL lettters? And I’m sorry, but how “Elite” are we all if it’s only $19.95? By the way I’ve received two more messages since they “gave up.”
Our next winner sent more than 45 messages between Jan 20 & Mar 20. Approximately one every 36 hours. These are fun, here’s a sample:
I’m writing you from Los Angeles, California, where I’m attending my good friend… event (I’ll have pictures from last night’s VIP party for you next week!). I’m actually here for two weeks, for a mix of business and vacation: seeing friends to create strategic alliances this year and tomorrow, Derek and the kids are joining me for a week’s vacation exploring Northern California. Then, I host my Sacred Circle Mastermind with my yummy clients at a beautiful boutique hotel in sunny Palm Springs.
As much as I want to be a “yummy” client, I have to ask; how much of a vacation is it if you are sending an email every 36 hours? or, is it, as I suspect, another canned campaign designed to make us all feel “special?”
Here is another:
People have been asking my team a lot lately, “How do*I* become a member of… exclusive Mastermind group?” The answer is that I only accept applications for this income-accelerating group at my live events. You simply HAVE to be at a certain level to be eligible and the… Workshop immediately qualifies you for it…
Isn’t that handy! Spending $1499 for a workshop “qualifies” us to join an “exclusive” group.
A few years ago all these folks were selling Amway.
But Dan! What about the “secrets!”
..and I’ll do it by sharing with you a simple 3-step formula
ANY business can use to INCREASE profits and then giving you a
real-life example. Fair enough? Here it is:
Step #1: Tell them What You’ve Got (describe your product or service)
Step #2: Tell them what it will do for them (What BENEFITS
will they receive)Step #3: Tell them what to do next (This is VITAL. Way too
many entrepreneurs and businesses WIMP OUT at the end and don’t ask for the order. Is this mistake preventing all the money YOU deserve from flowing into YOUR bank account?)Millions (maybe even Billions) of dollars are made each year by
smart businesspeople who follow this simple formula.
Hmmm… this sure sounds like classic “features, benefits, call-to-action” marketing to me.
These folks are apparently successful, with national reputations. But spending $19.95, or $1499 with them doesn’t make us any more special or elite or anything else than we were before. But it does make them rich.
And I’m all for that! So watch for it…
